As summer approaches, so does the rise of tick activity, increasing the risk of Lyme disease for pets. Many pet owners underestimate the dangers of ticks and other Lyme disease carrying parasites. It is more than itching behind their ears- the consequences of Lyme disease can be a serious issue for you and your pets.

What is Lyme Disease?
Lyme disease is a bacterial infection caused by Borrelia burgdorferi, which is transmitted through the bite of infected black-legged (deer) ticks. Once a tick latches onto a pet and feeds for 24-48 hours, it can transmit the bacteria into the bloodstream. The disease primarily affects dogs but can also impact cats and other animals. Without proper treatment, Lyme disease can lead to severe complications, making prevention crucial.
