Tonia Chen

Hello! I’m Tonia Chen, a Chinese American student passionate about expanding access to clean drinking water in the often overlooked corners of the world. I founded AguaEmpowers, a global nonprofit that has distributed hundreds of sustainable water filters to families across Asia, Africa, and North America. I have brought together students from 15 cities to join my mission of making clean water an expectation, not a privilege. After living in China for four years, I saw the harsh sanitation challenges that come with poverty. That experience continues to drive my commitment to public policy and health equality around the world.
