Rockwall-Based The Bucket Ministry Brings Life-Saving Clean Water To Athi River In Kenya

ROCKWALL, Texas (December 29, 2025) – The Bucket Ministry, a non-profit organization sharing God’s love through the gift of clean, safe, drinking water, announced the completion of its three-year campaign in Athi River, Kenya, which supplied clean water filters to a total of 13,161 households—exceeding its original goal of 5,717 households.

Athi River lies approximately 30 kilometers outside Kenya’s capital city of Nairobi and has a population of 81,302 residents. Lower-income families are largely concentrated in four major slums on the city’s periphery: Bondeni-Jua Kali, Kanani, Slaughter and Sophia. In these communities, where there is no piped water or sewage system—and waterborne disease is rampant—clean water access is not only scarce but costly. Twice a week, water trucks carrying up to 2,600 gallons replenish vending stations across Athi River, where residents can purchase five gallons of clean water at a time. A typical family of four depends on five gallons a day and must pay 20 Kenyan Shillings ($0.16) for this amount—despite earning roughly $13 per week.
